Product Description

The AP-1's compact size (3.0" x 2.4" x 1.25") allows for easy installation. Once the fuse panel is mounted, you simply attach the positive and negative wire between the power source (battery or relay) and the heavy power studs on the panel. This will allow the AP-1 to supply safe, fused power for up to eight individual electronic devices, including radio, GPS and other accessories up to 60 amperes. Adding your accessory is as simple as routing your power wiring from your device to one of the "eight positive and grounding lugless termial strips" on the AP-1. Our "lugless" terminal strips require you to strip off a small amount of wire insulation and insert the copper wire into the opening under the retaining screw. No additional fasteners are needed. Each AP-1 comes complete with fuses and necessary hardware, instructions and one year warranty .

Centech AP-1 Auxiliary Fuse Panel Review

The problem is how to power accessories on a motorcycle which uses CANbus technology, without triggering error codes. The solution is to use power direct from the battery, but doing so without fuses is dangerous, and doing so by stacking connectors on the battery terminals is asking for those vital connections to come loose during a ride.

The Centech fuse panel is a simple, sturdy way to supply accessory power without involving the expense and complexity of a relay. Centech also makes a relay model, for those who absolutely need switched power, but my recommendation is to save a few bucks and skip the relay. The only downside is you have to remember to turn the accessories off when you park, or else risk running down your battery. In return, you get a more reliable setup with one less failure-prone device in it (the relay).

The Centech board is arranged logically and has decent terminals to connect your accessory leads. It uses a common ground bus and lugless connectors, meaning all you need to do is strip the wires and tighten the screws -- no additional connector hardware needed. The panel can accept eight connections, with a 60-amp combined maximum, but if you are careful you can put more than one accessory on a connection, as long as you pay strict attention to how much they draw. Heated gear or accessory lights (heavy power draw) are obviously not good candidates for this kind of doubling up and of course you need to make sure the right fuse is in the circuit.

Before you buy, compare the unit's dimensions with the space where you want to mount it and don't forget to add in room for the connected wires to exit "gracefully," without extreme bends or kinks.
