Dual MCP100 AM/FM/MP3/WMA 55-Watt Stereo Receiver with 2 Speakers Review

I purchased this unit about 5 months ago. I installed it on the center console of a 16 foot fishing skiff I use in both fresh and saltwater. I use the boat 4 to 8 times a month about 2 of those trips will be saltwater. I always rinse the boat after use in saltwater including the console and wipe down the face plate of the unit. I intalled a protective cover over the face to limit water exposure as much as possible.

Obviously when using an aux jack cable or usb cable to stream music from internet radio/Iphone the unit does get exposed to some spray or rain if fishing in rainy weather because I can't close the cover. Thus the reason I purchased a "Marine" grade unit. When looking at the metal on the face plate none of it is stainless and it all has corroded. The little rubber inserts that protect the jacks have stayed in place well, but the metal in those is corroded too. The display stopped working and then the unit would have radio station interference in the background even when used in other modes.

Finally, the unit quit working all together while fishing. This is my second unit. My first was a Sony. Honestly, I'm beginning to think the only thing that makes these companies call this a marine unit is the little rubber inserts to "protect" the usb and aux jack ports. Oh and the white color. Other than that I see no difference in a standard car unit. I'd say you get what you pay for but the Sony was double the price and failed even quicker. Does anyone know if there truly is a rugged marine reciever I could purchase? I mean the stuff I'm seeing on the market is junk. I'd pay to get a good one so I wouldnt have to remove and install another crap unit every 6 months.
