Shouldn't be so tricky, small cap screws on upper mount plate, one small nut at top and a big nut at bottom. Problem is, factory shocks were pretty much glued onto lower mounting shaft after 114K miles. So one side came off with plenty of WD40 and a big hammer, other side had to go to Meineke and they used the torch. New ones however, went on wonderfully with two jacks, one to support vehicle, other to compress new shock to exact height. Be aware though, pay attention to upper Hyundai mount tabs which need to point outward. KYBs raised rear to nice level ride, and perform nice with four adults in vehicle. I'd recommend them to anyone with worn Sonata rear shocks.
