StrongArm 6343 Hood Lift Support for Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Review

I found this product to be a perfect replacement for the hood lift that had gone bad on my SLK 230. It was packaged well so that it would not be damaged in shipment. This was really easy and I would recommend this product highly.
There are a couple of extra steps on this model for the SLK 230 so be prepared for it to take 10-30 min to complete the change. Don't throw away the old rod until you follow the following extra steps...
The first is the sleeve over the original rod must be removed after removing the rod from the car. Press the little button on the side of the sleeve that says "PRESS" and pull it off the old rod. Second, unscrew the threaded coupler from the end of the old rod. (You will notice the new one has just the threads sticking out one end) This coupler allows the new rod to be slid into the sleeve to then be attached to the car. Screw the coupler onto the new rod. You will need some pliers for unscrewing and rescrewing the coupler. Then place the coupler, now attached to the new rod, into the sleeve. It only fits one way but you will have to press the little button to move the coupler and rod all the way in since there are two oval holes in the sleeve and you need the button to protrude from the one closet to the end. Now you're ready to place the rod back onto the car. Reconnect it to the car on the hood first, then rotate the bottom half to line up with the connector on the the inner fender and snap it into place. Now you can throw away the old support rod and enjoy not having your hood whack you on the back of the head any more !! :-)
